Dear District B Resident:
Thank you for re-electing me to City Council to fight for you. This is my last term in office and I will continue to work hard for you as I have done over the past four years. I will keep making sure you get better access to city services and are considered in the public debate over the allocation of city funds.
During my tenure I secured a total of $1.9 billion in funds for infrastructure projects. I helped get $17 million to renovate and build new libraries and parks. I brought $6.3 million to replace Dixon Neighborhood Library and $6.8 million to renovate Fifth Ward Deluxe Theater.
$1.2 million of those funds was for Hobart Taylor Park; $120,000 for Highland Park; $2.8 million for Keith Weiss Park; $1.6 million for Stubener Airline Park; $1.5 million for Squatty Lyons Park; and $700,000 to renovate Busby Park.
I brought $8 million dollars back to District B to renovate multi service centers: $1 million for Fifth Ward Multi Service Center; $2.8 million for Acres Homes Multi Service Center; and $4.3 million for Kashmere Multi Service Center. I brought $24 million dollars for storm drainage projects and more than $30 million for waste water projects in District B.
I realize that District B still has unmet needs. I know that now more than ever we need more jobs; better opportunities for small businesses; greater access to health care; and a stronger educational system to prepare our children to compete for the jobs of the future. Neighbors, I can only do so much at the city level. It is time we look towards Congress to get more federal funding into our district. That’s why I have decided to run for the 18th Congressional District of Texas; to continue to look out for you!
Approximately 90% of Houston’s City Council District B is situated inside of the 18th Congressional District of Texas. Just as I have fought hard for you in Houston I ask that you allow me to keeping fighting for you in Washington. I will make sure Houston’s City Council District B has someone who will hear you in Congress!
If you have questions, want to volunteer or contribute to my campaign please call (832) 541-4908. Election Day for the Democratic Primary is March 2, 2010. Please vote early from February 16th- February 26th.
Respectfully yours,

Jarvis Johnson
