Our founders devised a system of government with specific responsibilities delegated to the State and Federal governments. Though it may be tempting to solve every problem on a national level, we know from experience that local solutions often work best. Just as I believe that what needn’t be publicly managed should be left to private industry, I also believe that what can be done on the state level should be done on the state level, as envisioned by the 10th Amendment. The best government is the one that’s most efficient, most responsive, and least invasive in your life—and usually, the more local the government, the better it fits that description. That’s why my preferred plan for single-payer health care is state based. I will work to ensure that the Federal government does not interfere in areas that rightly belong to the states.
